Clear winners from the upcoming federal budget: rich Aussies and businesses
Australians who are well off and Australian business will be the clear winners from the upcoming federal budget, the latest Essential poll has revealed.
Respondents also believed they – individually – would be the least likely (19 per cent) to experience a good outcome from the budget.
Younger Australians were marginally more likely to get a good deal out of the budget than older people (at 26 per cent and 25 per cent respectively) and people with lower incomes were also among the least likely to score from the budget, with 42 per cent of respondents believing the budget would actually have a bad or very bad outcome.

What do we want from the budget?
Australians overwhelmingly want the budget to inject more money into healthcare, followed by education and age pensions.
Housing affordability, public transport and renewable energy are also areas where spending needs to be increased.
Around half of Australians think the budget should decrease funding for corporate tax reductions, and that Australia needs to cut its foreign aid.
Voters for all three parties were united in a belief that healthcare, public transport and personal tax cuts were important.
But Liberal voters were the most likely to believe that corporate tax breaks should be increased, and the Greens were the most likely to believe funding for foreign aid should be increased.
Labor voters were the most likely to believe unemployment assistance should see funding boosted, while Liberal voters were the most likely to believe funding for anti-terrorism programs should be increased.
