Workers in this state earn an extra $200 a week

Have you ever wondered if the grass is greener on the other side?

If you live in Canberra, this question may not have crossed your mind thanks to a juicy median weekly wage.

Workers in the Australian Capital Territory are taking home the highest median earnings a week, according to new figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Workers in the political hub are earning a median $1,300 a week – $234 more than the national average of $1,066.

And, when compared with Tasmanian workers’ average weekly pay of $961, that gap grows to $339.

While workers in the Australian Capital Territory have the highest median weekly earnings by state, workers in Perth earned the most across capital cities.

They earned a median $1,167 a week, followed by Sydney and Brisbane with $1,100.

The poorest paid workers by location live in regional South Australia, earning just $922.

How does my job compare?

Comparing across industries and the story shifts. Mining workers are earning the most a week by far, taking home nearly $2,000.

That’s followed by workers in the electricity, gas, water and waste services and financial and insurances services industries.

Workers in the accommodation and food services are taking home the least: $500.
