Yahoo Finance Budget 2023: Major pay rise for 250,000 Aussie workers
The pay rise is aimed at keeping Aussies in the industry.
Aussies who work in aged care will see a massive 15 per cent pay rise in next week’s federal budget.
The higher pay packets will hit those workers’ bank accounts from July 1, 2023.
The increase applies to direct-care employers working in aged care. This includes personal-care workers and recreation/lifestyle activities officers, nursing assistants, enrolled nurses, registered nurses, nurse practitioners working in aged care, and homecare workers.
The 15 per cent increase also applies to the most senior food-services employees who are covered by the Aged Care Award and who work at a particular aged-care facility or site.

Some workers to see $10,000-a-year rise
A registered nurse on a level 2.3 award wage will be paid an additional $196.08 a week, which amounts to more than $10,000 a year.
An enrolled nurse on a level 2 award wage will be paid an additional $145.54 a week, or more than $7,500 a year.
An assistant in nursing on a level 3 award wage will be paid an additional $136.68 a week, the equivalent of more than $7,100 a year.
‘Historic’ pay rise to help keep staff
Treasurer Jim Chalmers said the pay rise would help the industry attract and retain staff in the struggling sector.
“Every worker deserves a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work and that’s what this will deliver for thousands in aged care across the country,’’ Chalmers said.
“For too long, those working in aged care have been asked to work harder for longer without enough reward but, with this budget, that changes.
“This investment recognises the incredible contribution that aged-care workers make to our economy and community and will help to create a bigger incentive for young Australians looking for a rewarding career to pick aged care in the future.”
