Australia’s 10 most in-demand streets for property buyers
When looking for a property to buy, there are several factors to consider – but perhaps none more important than location, location, location.
It seems like this detail matters not only in terms of the suburb, but right down to the street the house is situated on.
Here are the top 10 most in-demand streets in Australia, according to realestate.com.au:
While Sydney’s property prices might generally be much higher than Melbourne’s, it’s the ‘Europe of Australia’ that plays host to most of Australia’s 10 most-viewed streets, according to realestate.com.au data.
Eight of the 10 sought-after streets are all based in the Victorian capital, with Regent Street in the lead, followed by Perry Street, Joyce Street and Jayson Avenue.
Cross Street, located in Sydney’s affluent northern suburb of Mosman, comes in a fifth place, but the following three are again from Melbourne.
Rounding out the top 10 are Dauphin Terrace in Queensland and Glen Drive in Victoria.
Why does Melbourne dominate?
Regent Street, based in Melbourne’s Elsternwick, has drawn national attention thanks to one particular renovation TV show, said realestate.com.au chief economist Nerida Conisbee.
“People may not have necessarily known Elsternwick but then they’ve seen it on The Block and seen it’s a really lovely suburb and had a look around it. Also they’ve had a look at other houses on that street,” she says.

As the most-viewed street of Australia, lurkers are flocking here to look at houses on the high-profile Regent Street.
Sydney: Cross St, Mosman
Median house price: $3.775 million
Most viewers of this street aren’t actually looking to buy a new home here, but are taking a look for ideas and inspiration.
Brisbane: Dauphin Terrace, Highgate Hill
Situated just 2km from Brisbane’s CBD, it’s Dauphin Terrace’s convenient location rather than the actual houses that’s attracting viewers.
Adelaide: Gordon Street, Kurralta Park
Median house price: $605,000
Family-friendly Kurralta Park is located on a quiet no-through road away from the traffic. Even better, it’s only 6km away from the CBD.
Hobart: Faraday Street, West Hobart
Median house price: $700,000
The centrality and walkability of Faraday Street, as well as its character homes, are attracting not just local buyers but interstate and potentally international buyers, too.
Canberra: Hunter Street, Yarralumla
Median house price: $1.41 million
People are viewing this leafy street for its proximity to several embassies and large houses equipped with tennis courts and pools.
Perth: Walter Street, Claremont
Median house price: $1.6 million
Walter Street enjoys easy access to a number of amenities, such as a shopping centre, good schools, and public transport.
Darwin: Macartney Street, Fannie Bay
Median house price: $962,500
A mix of investors and families are looking at Macartney Street for its beach lifestyle and access to cafes and shops.
