Amazon founder will pay ex-wife $55 billion worth of stock in days
Amazon founder and billionaire Jeff Bezos’ divorce has been finalised by a Seattle judge, which means he’s set to pay wife of 25 years, Mackenzie, US$38.3 billion (AU$55 billion) worth of Amazon stock.
Bloomberg reports the transfer is expected to happen in the coming days, with regulatory disclosure detailing the shift in ownership is expected in early July.
In April this year, Amazon said 4 per cent of its outstanding stock, or 19.7 million shares, would be registered in MacKenzie Bezos’ name after court approval of the divorce.
Jeff Bezos remains the world’s richest person, with a 12 per cent stake in Amazon worth a whopping $112 billion.
In a statement to Twitter, MacKenzie Bezos said she intended to give away over half of her fortune, signing the Giving Pledge in May.
MacKenzie Bezos, worth nearly $37 billion, has pledged to give at least half her fortune to charity. She’s signed the giving pledge, something her former husband has declined to do. https://t.co/cF8vYSYo4p
