There are some things you don’t know you need until you hear about them – Aldi’s $299 robot vacuum cleaner is probably one of them.

Set to hit stores next Saturday 16 March, the Ecovacs Robotics DEEBOT OZMO 610 sounds like something from Star Wars.

But this particular robot belongs in your cleaning cupboard, rather than a Millennium Falcon.

Robot vacuums are sold at Miele for up to $1,699, so this Aldi robot could fly off the shelves.

And it doesn’t just vacuum – it also mops, offering what Ecovacs Robots describes as a “holistic floor cleaning solution”.

The robot comes with anti-collision sensors and allows owners to control it remotely via an app, set daily routines and set cleaning instructions, like “stay out of the bedrooms”.

It’s also a smart robot – when it senses it’s low on battery it automatically returns to its charging station.

But shoppers better hurry – the sale is part of Aldi’s notorious Special Buys catalogue and will be on sale only until 31 March or until stocks run out.

Aldi’s Special Buys sales have been known to trigger buyer frenzies, as shoppers desperate to get their hands on the latest product descend on stores.

However, the supermarket warns shoppers that its Special Buys items do come in a limited number and for a limited time, to help prevent disappointment.
