11 highest-earning traffic cameras in NSW
The NSW state government is raking in huge sums of cash from traffic cameras, with several Sydney streets earning millions of dollars per year.
A recent Daily Telegraph exclusive revealed how much money Sydney roads made from its speed and red light cameras between September 2017-September 2018.
The state’s most notorious speed camera facing north on the Eastern Distributor northbound at Darlinghurst raised a whopping $4,561,403 in the past year followed closely by the camera facing east on George Street at Haymarket which pulled in $4,104,456, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Stacey Street, Bankstown and Elizabeth Street in the CBD both raised more than $3 million while seven Sydney roads made upwards of $2 million.

The Daily Telegraph said data of all speed and red light cameras across the state between January and September last year shows 442,720 motorists were fined an average of $314 for each offence.
The fine for running a red light is $405 and the loss of three demerit points. Speeding fines start at $119 for motorists doing less than 10km/h over the limit.
Among the consistently highest-revenue cameras are northbound in Elizabeth St, Sydney where motorists paid out $2,669,195.
